Students at Sidney Kimmel Medical College have worked to create a Jefferson COVID-19 Student Volunteerism Platform, which serves as a centralized forum for the development and advertisement of projects to support both the Jefferson Health System and the community at large. Please find a list of volunteer initiatives that have been developed for advertisement on the Platform by Jefferson students and organizations or other members of the community. COVID: decoded is a blog and resource center providing up-to-date and easy to read info for the public. There are daily blogs, terms, FAQs, and a resource center for COVID info, mental health, hotlines, exercise, volunteers, donations, and interpreting the news. Created by medical students at SKMC and advised by an MD, we are now a growing collaboration across institutions, e.g., Temple, Drexel, and Penn. Information Hotline:
Our students are working with the Philadelphia Poison Control Center that is functioning as a COVID hotline for Philadelphians.

Arts, Media, and Entertainment:
We have a wellness committee, comprised of students and faculty, that create virtual wellness activities for students, including workouts, coffee houses, cooking classes, etc.

We have more than 100 volunteer activities identified for our students to participate in, ranging widely, and involving both COVID and non-COVID related activities. COVID-19 Education:
We have paired medical students with faculty to work on a variety of COVID-related research, both basic science and clinical. We also have students working on a Philadelphia COVID hotline and assisting with monitoring ICU patients in a virtual, real-time ICU. We have many activities related to COVID.

Food Services:
We have students organizing “One Extra Bag” a volunteer service that delivers food safely to housestaff and to housebound, vulnerable elderly patients.

We have students working on MANY different technology / IT projects with faculty supervision. Many are assisting with setting up telehealth systems for practices in our healthcare system.

Philadelphia Organization of Health Professions Students
Resource Production and Acquisition:
We are a grassroots team of Philadelphia-based health professional students mobilizing to provide healthcare workers with the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) they need to combat the COVID-19 Pandemic. We work alongside the Department of Public Health to ensure all donations are distributed fairly.
We represent students from medical, dental, and health professions schools across the greater Philadelphia area, including Drexel Med, Temple Med, Jefferson Med, PCOM, Penn Nursing, Penn Med, Drexel PA, Temple Podiatry, Penn Vet Med, Cooper Med, Geisinger Med, Penn Dental, etc.).
