COVID-19 Education:

Clinical Work:
Students are volunteering in virtual roles to perform telehealth services and followup for COVID patients and in-person roles at the hospital sites to screen visitors and train HCW on reusing PPE. Additionally, clinically advanced students have the opportunity to work at a disaster relief hospital to provide Sub-I level care to COVID positive patients.

The Mental Health Initiative focuses on providing HMS students are the broader community with wellness-related resources to decrease feelings of isolation. Students have created a calendar filled with wellness events accessible by anyone in the Harvard graduate community.

Advocacy:
This team is working on a number of initiatives to support vulnerable populations affected by COVID-19 as well as engaging medical student service and activism that may not be related to direct clinical support. This includes housing policy activism, addressing needs from essential health staff, and liaising with broader student community in Boston and beyond re: how to support essential health staff with needs (child care, grocery shopping, etc.).

General Services:
Students have come together to collect PPE from on campus labs, biotech companies, local colleges, and other community stakeholders. In the past week, we have collected around $85,000 of supplies (an estimated 20,000 pairs of gloves and over 1,000 n95 masks). The collection effort is now being transitioned to the hospital (please direct donations to supplychaindonations@umassmemorial.org).
