Research and Data Collection:

15 students are helping gather information for UMMC’s “Project Calvary,” an initiative to gather data in the hospital on our various personel and their job experience & qualifications, should they need to change roles. No direct patient contact.

IT and Technical Support:

Students are assembling to help support the use of computer tablets in the hospital for telehealth. More and more providers in house are using tablets to communicate with patients remotely (when possible and appropriate) to minimize exposures. The students will be supporting this practice by monitoring the locations of the tablets, transporting them, and troubleshooting technical issues with them. No direct patient contact. Devices will be cleaned before students handle them.

Resource Production and Acquisition:

Students are being trained to supervise PPE use (i.e. donning and doffing) throughout the hopsital. They will then be taking shifts throughout UMMC to try to best utilize our existing PPE sources. No direct patient contact.

Resource Production and Acquisition:

Students are volunteering to help with respiratory fit testing of N95 masks for hospital employees. Two six-hour shifts each day. No direct patient contact.

Screening and Testing:

Students will be providing help in various ways (running samples to lab, helping with data input, etc.) to Employee Health Screening Clinics set to start running as soon as possible. Operating 7 days a week, students will take shifts. No direct patient contact.

IT and Technical Support:

Students have designed a mobile application that provides COVID-19 information and UMMS hospital policy and protocols. It is designed for internal use by hospital employees.

Research and Data Collection:

Students are helping to test a large number of healthcare workers across the umms system for antibody to covid. Serology testing is offered to all UMMS employees to assess IgG and IgM antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. Students are NOT directly testing but assisting with processing the very simple one-use cassettes very much like over-the-counter pregnancy tests.

Students are calling recovered COVID-19 patients to recruit them for a research study. The participants donate their plasma for clinical antibody research.
